Hello lovelies!
Just a quick introduction to my blog! I’m here to share a small series of short posts to help you level up in your career journey and land that internship – whether you’re just starting out or want a little boost!
I'm a third-year finance student who was a little late to the game and (very nearly) missed out on so many key opportunities that helped me with progression. This time last year I didn't know how to network, I never attended events, and I knew absolutely nothing about the financial industry and markets.
Fast forward to now, I organise events and communications for the Women in Banking and Finance Society at my university and have gotten so much more active in my personal career path. I’ve learned so much over the past year, and even though I’m still figuring things out, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned along the way!
Here’s the thing I wish I learned sooner: you don’t need one massive experience to stand out. Experience comes from a series of little things – chatting to industry professionals, listening to business/course-related podcasts, attending insight days – these are the things that show your interest and help you build a unique and defined perspective to share with employers. Even if it’s one new idea that you pick up from a 2-hour webinar, it all counts.
For example, I landed my internship back in May, all because I spotted a QR code at a society event. It was for a company spring week, at which point I had no idea what a ‘spring week’ even was. Taking a photo and sending an application in through the link ended up saving me hours and hours of hunting for internships a few months later. Sometimes, it really is about being in the right place at the right time – and I’m here to help you find that place 💫
I can’t wait to share more of these small insights with you. Hopefully my experiences can save you a lot of time (and stress) and help with the start of an amazing career.
See you soon!
So insightful!
